Scalpel Tower

“This project was probably one of the first ‘BIM’ projects that we had worked on after many years working on 3D modelled projects, and it was great to experience the benefits of working in full collaboration with the design team through a common data environment. I believe the use of BIM truly improved the delivery of this project for quality, time, accuracy and waste management. Although the project went well there was still many challenges to overcome, such as the HV cables throughout the basement having to be installed as the lowest service due to installation sequencing, this presented problems on how to protect the cables if there was a fire, and how to protect the cables should services above collapse in those circumstances. Another issue was that there were AHU’s on every floor in very small plantrooms and the units had to be designed with heating / cooling coils which could pivot as they were withdrawn, as there wasn’t the space to fully withdraw the coils in the usual manner. They say every day is a learning experience and I certainly gained a lot of knowledge from this project which I have benefited from on future projects”.
