BIMTech Engineering Hosts WorldSkills UK Team Selection Competition for Digital Engineering Competitor
Introduction

BIMTech Engineering recently had the honor of hosting the prestigious WorldSkills UK Team Selection Competition, an event aimed at identifying Team UK's representative in the Digital Engineering category for the upcoming WorldSkills 2024 competition in Lyon, France. The event, held at BIMTech Engineering's headquarters, saw the 3 best candidates battle it out for their place on team UK.

A Platform for Excellence

WorldSkills is a global competition that celebrates and promotes vocational skills excellence. The UK team selection event for Digital Engineering brought together the 3 top competitors from across the country, each demonstrating their expertise in a series of challenging tasks designed to test their technical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

Nurturing Future Talent

Hosting this event aligns with BIMTech Engineering’s commitment to nurturing future talent and promoting excellence in the digital engineering field. The company’s Director, Matt McGuire, emphasised the importance of such initiatives, by stating:

“We are thrilled to host the WorldSkills UK team selection competition and to witness the incredible talent and dedication of these young digital engineers,” said Matt. “At BIMTech, we believe in the power of education and practical experience to drive innovation and excellence. This competition not only highlights individual skill but also the collaborative spirit essential to our industry.”

Highlight of the Event

The highlight of the event was getting the opportunity to sit down with the Chief Expert for Digital Engineering, Michael McGuire, to discuss WorldSkills and its role in the industry. This interview will be part of a new episode of The BIMTech Podcast.

“Massive thanks also to Mark Cain and Matt McGuire and the rest of the team at BIMTECH Engineering for hosting the WorldSkills UK Digital Construction squad over the next three days in Team Selection as they compete for the single place in WorldSkills Lyon 2024,” said Michael. “There is a lot of talent in squad UK, 2 national Gold medalists, 1 national silver with a European gold medal. Talk about a tough task, whoever wins this has had a difficult time, having to beat the best in the UK to progress. This is the final test for 2 of them, training for the past 2 years and it all comes down to these three days. They are all exceptional and each deserves the place, but there can be only one.”

We also got an exclusive sit-down with the competitors after the competition to get an insight into their 2 year journey to this point and what it would mean to them to get that spot at WorldSkills 2024.

A Proud Moment for BIMTech Engineering

Hosting the WorldSkills UK Team Selection Competition has been a proud moment for BIMTech Engineering. It reflects the company’s dedication to advancing the field of digital engineering and supporting the next generation of industry leaders. The event also provided an opportunity for BIMTech employees to engage with emerging talent and stay inspired by the innovative approaches demonstrated by the competitors.

Looking Ahead

With the selection process complete, all eyes now turn to Lyon, where the winner will compete against the best young digital engineers from around the world. Their journey is a testament to the importance of skill development and the impact of competitions like WorldSkills in shaping the future of industries.

BIMTech Engineering extends its congratulations to all participants and looks forward to the winner being announced. The company remains committed to fostering talent and driving innovation in the digital engineering sector, ensuring a bright future for digital engineering and BIM on both a national and global scale.
